Gloucester Swimmer Recipient of the Ottawa Amateur Athlete of the Year

Ottawa Sports Award ceremonies were held on January 25, 2012 honoring 16 local amateur athletes. Congratulations to Gloucester Synchro’s Marie Albert, 2011-2012 16-20 team member, Junior soloist and duet swimmer as the recipient of the 2011 Amateur Athlete of the Year in Synchronized Swimming. Marie, was a duet finalist at the Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships in 2011. She also qualified for the Ontario provincial team that competed at the U.S. Open held in Hawaii where her team placed 4th at this prestigious international competition. Marie also got to represent Ontario in the solo competition at this event, gaining valuable international experience.

Félictiations Marie! Nous sommes très fiers de vous.

General Rules for Competition:

No gelling permitted (caps only)
No food on deck
No outside shoes on deck / coaches only on deck
There will be NO access to the pool deck until 12:45PM
Parking at facility is $2.00 paid at the ticket meter. Ensure that you display ticket on dash of car.
Entrance fee for spectators $3.00
Ribbon will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes in all routine events.
Events will run earlier than scheduled – if time allows.

Sawmill Shut Down on Saturday, February 4!

Sawmill has had a pool fouling and is shut down – no practice on Saturday February 4, 2012.
10 & Under team will be re-scheduled as per the coaches
Duets / Solos will be rescheduled as per the coaches
Figure Session C – rescheduled – Sunday at CU 8:15 – 9:45am.

Gloucester Synchro Sends Three Teams to Ontario Winter Games!

Congratulations to 11 year old team, 14 year old team and 15 year old team as they qualified for Ontario Winter Games to be held March 8-11, 2012 hosted by the Town of Collingwood. The Games are a highly recognized, multi-sport competition that showcases some of Ontario’s best amateur athletes. Synchronized swimming events will take place at the Buell Fitness and Aquatic Centre at CFB Borden March 8-11, 2012. For more information about Ontario Winter Games click here.

Gloucester Synchro 16-20 Team successful at Provincial Trials!

Congratulations to Gloucester’s 16-20 team with a 1st place performance at Provincial Trials in Hamilton, Ontario on January 21-22, 2011.

Swimmers are Marie Albert, Kristina Anagnosti, Sophia Brandt, Sophie Chartrand, Mariel Kaine, Melanie Robichaud, Shannon Smith, Brenna Winter. Coached by Amy Gagnon and Heather McKinnon.

Many of these swimmers also earned ribbons in the following events:

Junior Duet: 3rd place Marie Albert and Shannon Smith

16-20 Solo: 2nd place Melanie Robichaud

16-20 Duet: 5th place Kristina Anagnosti and Sophia Brandt

Figures 16-20 year old: 1st place Shannon Smith; 2nd place Marie Albert; 6th place Melanie Robichaud

Next event will be Provincial Championships in Etobicoke February 17-19, 2012.

Combo is cancelled! All other practices are on for Thursday January 12, 2012. Lowertown practices – coaches will advise of practice status.

Please feel free to exercise your own judgment and discretion in determining whether you will drive your daughter to practice. Coaches are aware that swimmers are traveling from across the City of Ottawa/Gatineau and understand that some may miss practice since the parent is not able to comfortably and safely drive their daughter to- and from- practice.

Please email or call your coaches if you are not coming to practice so they can plan accordingly.

Reminder re: Notification of practice cancellation -
The club is always striving to ensure that your daughter travels safely to- and from- practice. Members of the Executive will be monitoring advisories from Environment Canada, Ministry of Transportation and the City of Ottawa to determine whether practice should proceed or be cancelled.

In stormy weather, please check your e-mails two hours prior to the beginning of practice to see if the club has cancelled the practice. Emails will only be sent advising if practice is cancelled.
